Mayor's Welcome

Since 1973, we have worked diligently to strengthen our relationships with each of the four cities – Cancún, Mexico; Orléans, France; Kaifeng, China; and Tlalnepantla de Baz, Mexico. WASC continues to serve as a catalyst for the educational and city-to-city exchanges that have enriched our ties abroad.

As a Council, we will continue to support international relations and seek Wichitans, who have an interest in international relationships. It is those attributes we look for when considering our board appointments to WASC. I encourage you to strengthen our cultural, sporting, professional, educational and economic exchanges with each sister city.

President's Welcome

Wichita, All American City, Air Capital of Aviation, Shocker Country,  Beautiful Mid-Western City on the Plains of Kansas, Our Home and unquestionably a Global International City, is quietly making global History.

On September 11th, 1956, President Dwight D. Eisenhower launched the Sister City International organization to empower ordinary citizen diplomats to become engaged in advancing Peace and Friendship through Cultural, Educational and Business exchanges around the globe.

In 1973, Wichita Mayor Bob Brown launched the Wichita Area Chapter of the Sister City international as a Non-profit organization. Today, our local organization proudly maintains relations with our cities in three nations with whom we exchange business, educational and cultural exchanges annually.

They include Kaifeng in China, Orléans in France, Cancún and Tlalnepantla de Baz in Mexico.

As we begin the new year 2023, our organization renews its commitment and re-dedicates itself to the vision of peaceful co-existence, as envisioned by President Dwight D. Eisenhower. We invite you to join in this citizen diplomacy work.

Teresa Molina

WASC President 2022-2023
